IX International Summer School in Karelia 2012

11.03.2012

PetrSU students will participate in the IX International Summer School in Karelia.

The topic of the school is “The factor of water resources in the relations in the Northern Europe”.

International Summer School in Karelia is a particular place where students and international scientists that study urgent problems of international relations in Northern Europe meet.

The main objective of the school is to gather together students from Russia, Finland and other Northern European countries and organise a discussion on the critical issues concerning the development of this particular region.

The format of the school includes lectures, round table discussions, trainings, game work forms, and excursions. Lectures usually take place in the mornings. After the lectures the reporters pose questions for discussion to the participants. Answers to these questions have to be found together by the means of group work. According to participants, this particular activity is the most entertaining and productive. At the end of the day participants show results of their work by making presentations and posters. Group work is moderated by lecturers, scientists and experts from Russia and Northern European countries.

The idea of the school’s organisers is to present views of specialists from various Northern European countries concerning the same international problem that is why during the morning session students listen to two lectures on cross-cutting issues: the first one is presented by a Russian expert, and the other one – by an expert from a Northern European country.

It often comes out during the course of discussion that some opinions match, as well as some issues can be interpreted differently. This fact adds an interesting feature to the school – its ability to establish international dialogue between scientists.

The IX International Summer School will take place from the 13th till the 17th of May 2012 in Petrozavodsk.

Additional information and reports on previous schools can be found on PetrSU website in the  “International school of  Faculty of Political and Social Sciences” section.
