The ‘EU Days’ in Syktyvkar were held within the framework of the project ‘Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia’

In June 2012 the ‘EU Days’, organized within the framework of the project ‘Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia’, implemented with the financial support of the EU were held in Syktyvkar.

On the 7th of June on the basis of SyktSU Summer English Camp a quiz on the EU matters was organized for students of educational institutions of Syktyvkar. The quiz was entitled as follows ‘European Union: history and contemporary trends of development’.

 

Students of the Department of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication of SyktSU under the leadership of senior lecturer of the Department E.A. Danilova created tasks for the quiz.

 

School children of 8 – 10th grades of educational institutions of Syktyvkar took part in the quiz. They presented National Gymnasium of Komi, Gymnasium of the Arts, Gymnasium № 1, Ezhvin Lyceum № 1, schools № 22, 26, 18, 24.

The quiz started with the welcoming speech presented by Irina Vasiljevna Zimina, prorektor on development and vocational education of SyktSU.     

 

Then students of the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences of SyktSU showed their presentation on the European Union. The presentation covered general information on the European Union, and the origin of the EU. Students also got familiar with the symbols of the EU, its institutions and current  activities.

The quiz on the EU began right after the presentation. Students had to give a full answer to questions asked. Participants of the quiz received starts for each right answer (as one of the EU symbols). Winners of the quiz were determined based on the amount of stars received. As a result, three people received equal amount of stars. That is why finalists had to make a short presentation on the EU within the framework of the quiz, and other participants determined winners

by voting.

Thus the first and third places were distributed among Anna Sharaftudinova (‘Gymnasium № 3б’ 8th grade) and Anna Sedova (school № 24) accordingly. All participants of the quiz received diplomas. Winners got prizes and souvenirs with the logo of SyktSU.

Youth roundtable on the issues of management in commercial enterprises of Russia and the EU continued the ‘EU Days’. SyktSU students conducting research on the topic of European management were invited to take part in the event.

During the roundtable differences in corporate management, standards of financial accounting and accountance, structures of management of enterprises in matters of quality management and staff in Russia and the EU were taken into consideration.

Students under the guidance of moderator A.V. Seryakov discussed advantages and disadvantages of management systems in different countries and made an attempt to analyze possibilities of using European management practices in Russia and Russian management syle in European Union. All in all, 18 participants took part in the roundtable.
