Educational Course «Cross-border Cooperation as a Factor of the EU Economic Development»

From September 30, 2013 to September 22, 2013 the first course in the English language developed within the framework of the project “Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia”, implemented with the financial support of the European Union, was arranged in PetrSU. The title of the curse is «Cross-border Cooperation as a Factor of the EU Economic Development». It was developed and presented by Associate Professor Oksana Prokhorova, Economic Theory and Management Department, Faculty of Economics.

It consists of 36 hours. The course included such issues as introduction to cross-border cooperation as a factor of the EU economic development, concept of cross-border cooperation in the framework of current conditions, its institutional element, influence on social and economic development in the EU (“neighborhood effect”), formation mechanism, European region as a special form of cross-border cooperation, types, spheres and experience of implementation of cross-border cooperation, projects and development of the Barents region and the European Union.    

9 students of the third year of education from the Faculty of Economics have completed the course. The last lecture was open for mass audience. On October 22, 2013 59 people, including students and staff of Russian and foreign universities, attended the lecture. Kemi-Tornio University of Applied sciences (Finland), the Arctic University of Norway, International Institute of Business Education and Murmansk State Technical University were among them.   

The course of the project are developed on the basis of knowledge, experience and skills acquired during the training program (the English language course, the course devoted to the modern pedagogical technologies and psychology in higher education institution, one week internship in central European University) and research with a specific topic which is conducted by the lecturers. Thus, the courses are prepared in accordance with the European standards and practices, they encourage the increase of education quality and the integration of Russian education into the common European space. Besides, they provide students with the opportunity to receive the language practice in their professional sphere.
