Lecturers Improved Their Knowledge of the English Language

8 lecturers of Humanities and Natural Sciences Faculties and also of the Institute of Economics, Management and International Relations of Murmansk State Technical University successfully have completed the course of the English language within the framework of the project “Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia”, implemented with the financial support of the EU.

 

Within the framework of the course the lecturers had the opportunity to improve written and oral speech skills, listening comprehension skills, master translation techniques and methodology, master the basics of elocution and basics of presentation skills, significantly enrich their vocabulary.

 

The educational programs, apart from mastering basic skills of academic writing, practicing oral speech skills and public speaking in English, revision of lexical and grammar rules, also included the following topics:

 

  • Challenges of Modern Society   
  • Business and Corporate Etiquette
  • Prominent Scientific Achievements at the turn of the XX-XXI century
  • Leadership and Modern Techniques of Directing a Discussion
  • Successful Job Interview

 

Interactive approaches and modern work books were used in the course of study, the lessons were organized in the form of discussions, individual work, project implementation, active practice of oral speech. Individual linguistic consultations on the questions connected with the content development of courses devoted to the topic of the European Union were arranged for lecturers.        

 

During the exam the lecturers demonstrated the open presentations of their courses:

 

  • “Topical Challenges of the European Integration and EU Innovation Policy at the Present Stage” – E.A. Saenkova, Ph.D. in Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of International Economic Relation Department;
  • “The Possibilities of Introduction of the European practices Connected with Waste Management to the North-Western Region of the Russian Federation” – N.N. Pliusnina, senior lecturer of Ecology and Environmental Protection Department;
  • “Environmental Change as a Challenge to Sustainable Development in Europe” – G.V. Vasilieva, Ph.D. in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of Ecology and Environmental Protection Department;   
  • “The European Union and Russia: History of Partnership and Competition” – O.V. Savateeva, Ph.D. in Philological Sciences, Head of Department of Specialized Preparation for Foreign Languages;
  • “Large European Cities in the System of World Community” – N.M. Anikeeva, Head of International Cooperation Department;
  • “Fishery Management in the Barents Region as an Integrated Part of the European Fishery System” – K.B. Alloyarov, senior lecturer of Food Production Technology Department;
  • “Electronic Document and Records Management System in Russia in comparison with Electronic Document Organization in the European Union” – Ya.A. Glukhih, Ph.D. in Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of Department of Specialized Preparation for Foreign Languages;
  • “Approaches to Sustainable Development Management in the European Union” – S.V. Petrova, senior lecturer of Economics Department.

 

Certificates of the established standard were awarded to lecturers who successfully passed all examinations.
