Meeting of the Joint Working Group on Education and Research (JWGER)
On October 9, 2014 PetrSU took part in the meeting of the Joint Working Group on Education and Research (JWGER) of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council in the framework of the project “Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia”, implemented with the financial support of the European Union.
Representatives of Russian and foreign universities of the Barents Region (Murmansk, Archangelsk, Syktyvkar, Uhta, Finland) participated in the meeting. PetrSU was represented by A. Rogozin from the Institute of International Programs of PetrSU. The session of the Joint Working Group on Education and Research (JWGER) of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council was held at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Archangelsk.
The participants summarized the results of the work in 2012-2014, pointed out the promising directions of cooperation and presented the examination of their universities, as well as analyzed the working plan for a further period. Special focus was placed on promotion of academic mobility within the framework of the program of the University of the Arctic “North to North”, further intensification of cooperation within the framework of thematic networks, implementation of international conference on academic cooperation in the Barents region in 2016.
The question on participation of representatives of the relevant regional and federal government authorities of Russia, Finland, Norway and Sweden in JWGER work was also discussed.
The second part of the session was devoted to the concept of joint project for submitting the application within the second call of cross-border EU-Russia cooperation program “Kolarctic” in 2016. The project will allow to determine direction of development of the Barents Region in the sphere of education and science for the nearest years.
