Open debate on the topic ‘Is European crisis a threat to Russia?’

Lyudmila Kulikovskaya, Head of the Department for International Cooperation together with Head EU Information Centre Anastasia Kuznetsova took part in the open debate on the topic ‘Is European crisis a threat to Russia?’

The ambassador of the European Union in Russia Mr. Fernando Valenzuela and the Rector of Kazan Federal University Dr. Ilshat Gafurov welcomed the participants of the debate.

Sergey Yerofeev, Head of the International Programmes at the European University of Saint Petersburg, Derek Averre, Head of the Centre for Russian and Eastern European Research at the University of Birmingham, Markku Kangaspuro, Dmitry Travin, Scientific Director of the Center for the modernization at the European University at St. Petersburg and Linar Latypov, Pro-rector of Kazan Federal University for International Cooperation were speakers of the debate.

In the first part of the debate speakers shared their opinions on the current situation and discussed the possible ways out. The following discussion was divided into several sections, namely the ‘Experience of the European modernization and modern Russia’, ‘Social networks and political activity of citizens’, ‘Can there be a Europe for everyone?’. The participants had an opportunity to select a section and take an active part in discussions. The debate served as a platform for fruitful exchange of opinions among students, lecturers and experts.
