The Cradle of Civilization

Students fromCanada,England,GermanyandFinlandwho study Russian carried out a journey to the cradle of civilization on theterritoryofKarelia. The place of the journey was Archaeological museum of the Karelian Research Centre of theRussianAcademyof Sciences and the guide of the students was doctor of sciences, director of museum Svetlana Kochkurkina.    

Svetlana Kochkurkina told foreign students when the settlement of ournorthern territoriesbegan, who the first people were, where they came from more then 9 000 years ago, about their activities, technologies and secrets which they left us. Special conversation was devoted to the Karelian Middle Ages, building of towns, way of life and relations with neighboring states and the Principality of Novgorod. Svetlana as the participants of archaeological excavations of ancient settlements and towns demonstrated photos of excavations and some interesting archaeological finds the part of which is unique and knows no equals in other archaeological museums.         

It’s noteworthy that the tale about the profession of archeologist caught the same interest of students as demonstration of artefacts. Students admitted that it was a pleasure for them not only to visit the museum but also to communicate with a wonderful specialist. By the way, the conversation was held in Russian.
