1st meeting of the EU Research Club
On the 19th of April 2012 the first meeting of the EU Research Club took its place. The Club was founded within the framework of the ‘Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents area ofRussia’ project funded by the EU.
The first meeting was held as a roundtable on the following topic: ‘Crisis in the EU: a view from the outside’. Students and lecturers from faculties of Law, Economics, Political and Social Sciences, as well as the staff of the Directorate for international cooperation participated in the roundtable. Lyudmila Kulikovskaya, head of the Directorate and director of the project, Anastasia Kuznetsova, head of the EU Information centre and project coordinator, and Yury Kilin, head of the Chair of General History were in charge of the meeting.
Within the course of the roundtable the following questions were covered upon: the character and reasons of the crisis; definition of the field, where crisis started; interests and goals of the EU member states; future of the EU andRussia’s position on the current situation in the EU. The discussion was held in a form of a debate, and the participants actively exchanged opinions.
The latter could not only share their opinions, but also gain some new knowledge on the European Union. As a result, the participants expressed their desire to continue work within the Club.
