System of Values of the European Union: What Does It Mean and Where Is It Applicable?

The meeting of the EU research club took place at the PetrSU Barents EU Centre on 16 February 2017.

The club exists since 2012 and operates within the framework of the project “EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia”, implemented with the financial support of the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

This time the meeting was held in the format of a topic discussion “System of Values of the European Union: What Does It Mean and Where Is It Applicable?”. Students of the Institute of History, Political and Social Science, Institute of Economics and Law, Institute of Medicine, Institute of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism and a public member took part in the meeting.

Moderators of the meeting were a 3rd year student of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences Svetlana Firsova and the director of the EU InfoCentre, head of the Barents EU Centre Anastasia Kuznetsova.

Svetlana spoke about the fundamentals of the system of values of the EU, the documents that secure them and the attitude of the citizens of other countries towards them. The participants discussed how universal and flexible this system is, how it is affected and can be affected by current migration processes, how this system affects the current EU foreign policy and its member-states.

In general the discussion was active, the participants expressed different opinions and arguments on the topic of the meeting, exchanged their views. They gave positive remarks on the event and the activity of the Barents EU Centre.
