Treaty of Rome: Europe after 60 years
Scientific conference for young researchers of the problems of modern Europe “Treaty of Rome: Europe after 60 years” took place at PetrSU on May 29, 2017. The conference was held within the framework of the “EU Center in the Barents Region of Russia” project, implemented with the financial support of the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.
It was organized for the second time by the EU Barents Centre and Karelian Branch of the Association of European Research.
PetrSU lecturers and students from the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences took part in the event. Event’s moderator was Yury Mikhailovich Kilin, DSc in History, Head of the PetrSU Department of History, Political Science and International Relations, Director of the Institute of North European Research, Petrozavodsk State University, Chairman of Karelian Department of the European Studies Association.
2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students and postgraduate students specializing in “International Relations”, “History of International relations”, “History of Northern European Countries” presented their reports on topics like environmental cooperation of the Northern Dimension program, specifics of Great Britain’s migration policy in the cusp on the XX and XXI centuries, Finland in the wake of the North Atlantic Alliance in the 1990s.
In general the conference showed that the interest towards European research at PetrSU is valued among young scientists, students are marked by a good knowledge of European issues. All speakers received certificates and commemorative prizes.
