On November 27, 2012 intellectual game “The European Union. 20 years” (first stage) was conducted in the school hall of gymnasium. The initiator of the game was Northern Arctic Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov within the framework of the joint project “Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents Region of Russia”. The coordinator of the project was a former pupil of gymnasium Maria Nesterenko. The game was led by Anne Bondarenko and Valeria Neucheva (NArFU students, gymnasium alumni). The participants were represented by teams of the 10th and 11th grades.

Murmansk Oblast entered the project ‘Establishing the EU Centre in the Barents region’. Petrozavodsk received grant for its establishment. Syktyvkar, Arkhangelsk and Polar Region also participate in the project. In commemoration of this event Murmansk State Technical University and Club of European Languages conducted Welcome days.

This Centre operates on the basis of Petrozavodsk State University. MSTU is one of the partner universities of the project, implemented with the financial support of the EU.
